The sudden change from plains to high altitude demands that we take it slow and give ourselves time to adjust to our new surroundings.

In the evening, we will enjoy a welcome dinner, savoring local dishes and getting to know one another. With hearts full of anticipation, we will then retire for the night, eager for the adventures that await us on the open road.

Today is all about slowing down and soaking in the vibrant energy of Lhasa while allowing our bodies to acclimatize to the altitude.

It’s also a day to prepare ourselves for the journey, with all the necessary documents and licenses being finalized for a smooth drive ahead.

This easy pace allows us to recharge, ensuring we’re ready and excited for our Lhasa road trip.

Today we embark on a sightseeing tour of Lhasa and our first stop is the magnificent Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama.

Perched atop a hill overlooking the city, the palace is a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture. Then we make our way to the nearby Jokhang Temple where you will encounter the sacred Jowo Shakyamuni statue, believed to be the holiest object in Tibetan Buddhism.

Afterwards, we will visit Barkhor Street, a vibrant marketplace with shops selling everything from prayer flags, and incense to handicrafts.

In the evening, we will collect our vehicles to officially start our Lhasa road trip tomorrow.

Set out on a long drive from Lhasa to Shigatse, a bustling city in Tibet known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning monasteries. The ever-changing landscape will keep you captivated, from the towering peaks of the Himalayas to the vast expanses of the Tibetan Plateau. En route, we will visit the Yamdrok Lake, one of the largest sacred lakes in the region. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers surreal views that you can soak in, for a few peaceful moments before getting back on the road.

We will continue driving through the breathtaking scenery, passing through quaint villages and rural settlements along the way.

As we approach Shigatse, the landscape changes once again, giving way to sprawling plains and fertile valleys. The city comes into view, its ancient monasteries and majestic palaces standing as testaments to Tibet’s rich cultural heritage. Finally, we arrive in Shigatse and check into our accommodations for an overnight stay.

Today is a slower-paced day, giving us the chance to truly absorb the spiritual and cultural essence of Shigatse. After breakfast, we head out to explore the heart of the city, beginning with a visit to the iconic Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the most important monasteries in Tibet and the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama.

As we walk through its grand halls and courtyards, you’ll witness rows of prayer wheels, ancient murals, and towering golden statues that reflect centuries of Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

The rest of the day is spent soaking in the atmosphere of Shigatse—taking in views of the surrounding landscapes, observing daily life, and enjoying some quiet moments before the road calls us again. We return to our hotel in Shigatse for an overnight stay, well-rested and ready for the journey towards Tingri and the mighty Himalayas that await.

As we set our sights on Tingri and hit the road once again, we will find ourselves surrounded by majestic mountains and endless open roads. The open road stretches out before us, inviting us to embrace the freedom of the journey. With each passing mile, the rugged beauty of the Himalayas will leave you spellbound and the mighty Mt. Everest occasionally peeking from the clouds will beckon you closer.

On top of that, the dramatic skies, the cool mountain breeze, and the rolling convoy make this particular stretch of our Lhasa road trip all the more worth it. Upon reaching Tingri County, we will rest and recharge after a long day of driving.

Today is a day filled with anticipation as we embark on a memorable journey to Everest Base Camp (EBC), the gateway to the world’s highest peak, Mount Qomolangma (Mount Everest) by boarding a tour bus. The sheer magnitude of the Himalayas is overwhelming, to say the least, and not everyone is lucky enough to experience it all in their lifetime. It is undoubtedly one of the most exciting experiences on our Road to Lhasa itinerary.

En route, we will visit the Rongbuk Monastery which lies near the base of the north side of Mount Everest at an altitude of 16,434 ft and is often cited as the highest monastery in the world.

After exploring the monastery and getting back on the road, we finally arrive at Everest Base Camp where we will be greeted by the imposing presence of Mount Everest looming in the distance. The sheer magnitude of the highest peak in the world will take your breath away when you finally get to see it in all its glory. After spending some moments here, we will board the bus to return to Tingri where we will indulge in a scrumptious lunch and then hit the road again to drive towards Shigatse for an overnight stay

Leaving Shigatse behind, we embark on a mesmerizing drive towards Damxung where Tibet’s rugged terrain and vast greenlands will unfold before you. The drive from Shigatse to Damxung is full of incredible views and wide-open spaces. Winding roads take you through high mountain passes, where prayer flags flutter in the wind and snow-covered peaks surround you.

Located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, Damxung is renowned for its picturesque lakes, lush meadows, and snow-capped mountains. As you keep driving across the Tibetan plateau to reach Damxung, the landscape changes to golden grasslands that stretch for miles.

Upon our arrival, we will check into our accommodation and simply retire for the night.

Today we will start our return journey to Lhasa but before we embark on the final stretch of our Lhasa road trip, we will visit the breathtaking Namtso Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world nestled at an elevation of over 15,400 feet. Namtso Lake is revered as a sacred site by Tibetans and attracts visitors from far and wide with its pristine waters and breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayas.

After leaving Namtso, the convoy winds through the vast Tibetan Plateau, where the grasslands gradually give way to the city’s vibrant streets. Upon reaching Lhasa, it’s time to say goodbye to your trusted vehicles. In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner, laughing over shared adventures and unforgettable memories. It’s a bittersweet goodbye to an extraordinary chapter, but the stories and connections we’ve made will stay with us long after the road ends.

We bid farewell to the Himalayan landscapes, marking the end of our remarkable journey. Boarding our flight, we carry with us, not just luggage, but a treasure trove of memories we made and the bonds we shared.
